Fusing Fashion and Home Styling

Alot of people can put together a decent outfit, few can fashion a beautiful room.
It is not as hard as it seems however.
Lemme give you some pointers.
Let's start with this outfit

Step 1
The first thing is to figure out what style of home design this most closely relates to. With its clean lines, neutral but bold color palette, and mix of textures, I would say Contemporary. With that said, let's move on.

Step 2
Color Palette. This is rather simple here. The colors are neutrals (grays and browns(picked up in the gold of the jewelry)) and darks (black and indigo). Since these colors are dark, we should go with one of the lightest colors for the wall. In a room with more light colors, a darker wall works well...and in a room with brights, it is best to go with a neutral wall.
So the lighter gray would work well as a wall color.

Step 3
Furniture.
This step involves finding furniture, in the style of the room, in the colors and textures that you picked.
For example:

These larger items pick up some of the main colors in the look, softening the black a bit with charcoal and setting the Contemporary tone for the room. Sofa, Chairs, and Bookshelf from Room and Board, Tables from Macys and Horchow.

Step 4
Decor
Now pieces that mimic the accessories will be pulled. These may not match dead on, but give the same style to the room.
LIGHING-brass, golds, and silvers to bring some shine to the room, from Pottery Barn and Macys.

PILLOWS- Gray fur pillows from Neiman Marcus

RUG-a sort of moroccan flavor in gray and cream to anchor the room from Horchow

These pieces together can transform the beautiful outfit, into a beautiful room.
