Pinboarding is a relatively new idea, where you make a vision board of sorts full of things that sort of float your boat, inspire you, or simply make you smile.
Well, I LOVE LOVE LOVE when they take an idea from the physical to the digital...and now you can pinboard online at www.pinterest.com.
You can make fantastic themed pinboards of items found ANYWHERE online or on your computer.
Check out my pins to the right at Karyn Lynn's Pinboards!
Happy Pinboarding.

Fashion Dictionary: Designers
One thing every good fashionista should know is her way around a conversation around the best fashion designers.
So, here is a short little startup for you...
Yves St. Laurant: The creative director of the House of Dior who was the first French designer to launch a pret-a-porter (ready to wear) collecton under the brand YSL. He was the first fashion designer to use African-American models in his runway shows. He died in 2008, but will forever be known as the first designer to introduce the shift dress and the tuxedo smoking jacket.

Marc Jacobs: Perhaps one of this centuries best known and most prolific fashion designers. As head designer of both Marc Jacobs and Marc by Marc Jacobs and creative director for Louis Vuitton, he is at the forefront of all things fashion.

Stella McCartney: This woman SINGLE HANDEDLY resurrected the house of Chloe...following in the footsteps of the legendary Karl Lagerfeld. In tandem with Gucci, she later started her own line which has become known for its green designs.

Tom Ford: Creative director for both Gucci and YSL, this young designer helped catapulted both brands back into the fashion mainstream, increased Gucci sales by 90% and started his own brand, Tom Ford, soon after.
Michael Kors: The AMERICAN designer...as one third of the famous judge panel on Project Runway, Michael Kors started his own brand in 1981 and also worked as creative director the the line Celine. Touted as possibly the designer of the best made woman's clothes in the world, he is truly an enormous talent!

Vera Wang: possbily the best known designer of women's wedding dresses in the world, this woman has successfully launched her own ready to wear and accessories collections as well...but her wedding dresses continue to be the most widely coveted in the world!
Alexander McQueen: (RIP 2/11/2010) was a British fashion designer known for his unconventional designs and shock tactics. McQueen worked as the head designer at Givenchy for five years before founding the Alexander McQueen and McQ labels. McQueen's dramatic designs, worn by celebrities including David Bowie, Björk, Lady Gaga and Rihanna, met with critical acclaim and earned him the British Designer of the Year award four times.

Miuccia Prada: an Italian fashion designer (Prada, Miu Miu) and entrepreneur. She is the youngest granddaughter of Mario Prada, founder of the company Prada. She and her husband took over the family-owned luxury goods manufacturer in 1978. Since then, they've turned it into a fashion powerhouse, acquiring Jil Sander, Helmut Lang and shoemaker Church & Co.Miu Miu is a high fashion brand from the Prada fashion house, opened in 1992 and headed by Miuccia Prada. The name of the collection is taken from Miuccia Prada’s nickname.

Nicolas Ghesquière: currently creative director for the house of Balenciaga, and turned Balenciaga completely around.compared to Yves Saint-Laurent in his ability to feel and shape fashion. In October 2000, he was named avant-garde designer of the year at the VHI/Vogue Fashion Awards and a year later, he was named Womenswear Designer of the Year by the CFDA. Most recently Ghesquière was featured in Time's 100 Most Influential People of 2005. His pencil-thin pants are particularly popular. His signature silhouette of skinny pants and blouson jacket, a vestige of Ghesquière's obsession with the '80s, is a virtual staple in fashion's contemporary market." Today, the brand is also famous for its line of motorcycle-inspired handbags, especially the famous "Lariat".
Oscar de la Renta: His fashion career spans over four decades making New York based Oscar de la Renta one of the most respected designers of our day. The first American to design for a French couture house (Pierre Balmain in 1993), he apprenticed with the eminent Cristobal Balenciaga, worked at Lanvin and Elizabeth Arden and has garnered A-list fans from First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy to modern style-setter Sarah Jessica Parker. Choose from opulent signature evening gowns and fashion-forward, beautifully wearable day dresses.

Christian Louboutin: Louboutin's trademark glossy red soles give an instant stamp of fashion excellence. The designer's ethos is to "make shoes that are like jewels" and each unique design demonstrates unparalleled quality and an innate sultriness. From vertigo-inducing pumps to the seasonal must-have metallic lace-up brogues as well as a covetable range of totes and clutches, Louboutin is the accessories brand for every super-chic fashionista.

Brian Atwood: Brian Atwood Ex-model Brian Atwood started off designing Versace's footwear before deciding to branch out on his own in 2001. His label is now a firm favorite with fashion savvy shoe-lovers including Hollywood stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Nicole Kidman and Madonna. Shoe Stoppers: Not just Champagne
I cannot BEGIN to tell you how in love I am with this shoe...in love, butterflies, heart palpitating, wanting to see them over and over again, missing them as soon as they are out of your sight...that punch drunk love!
The Brian Atwood Cristal with the back bow and the gold metallic strip...plus a sexy t-strap, I mean, what else could you want in a shoe. I think it is shoe perfection...but I love BA, so I am a little biased!
Carry on...
A Fashion Dictionary
The other day I was carrying my Rebecca Minkoff MAB bag and someone said,
"That is fabulous, what kind of bag is that? This is one hot bag!"
When I told her, she had never heard of Minkoff or the MAB Bag, but was clearly smitten.
So, I thought...I bet there are tons of women out there, seeing fabulous items all over the place and they have NO idea who designs them, where to get them, etc.
So, I thought...let's do something about that.
Every week, I will do a Fashion Dictionary...where I showcase some of the more trendy or classic pieces in fashion...so you know what you are looking at when you see it.
Today, we will start out with some of the classic bags you might see celebrities carrying, as well as others...
Louis Vuitton Speedy

This iconic bag is simple and to the point. It is LVs leading selling bag, and certainly a staple in many a woman's handbag wardrobe.
Hermes Birkin Bag

This bag is another icon, iconically expensive and hard to get...but most celebrities will have one hanging from their forearm...
Fendi Spy Bag

One of Fendi's best known bags, and a "IT" bag for sure. Folks were going GAGA over its soft leather and coin purse.
Chloe Paddington

Possibly my favorite bag ever made, and certainly the reason why the term "it" bag ever came into existence. That soft leather and those great colors...YUM!
Alexander Wang Rocco

A new kid on the block that has certainly gotten its share of attention...whether its the softest leather on earth or the bottom studs...
this bag packs a punch.
Rebecca Minkoff Morning After Bag

A fave among celebrities and bloggers alike...with its multitude of color and style options...piping to studs...this large and well made bag is a collectors item for sure!
Marc Jacobs Stam Bag

Redone, in quilted material, this starburst pattern, and a multitude of other styles, all in this beautiful shape with the chain shoulder strap...Marc Jacobs surely outdid himself on this one!
Govenchy Nightengale

A great bag...with lots of posh style.
Balenciaga Motorcycle Bag

The reason the term "it" bag stayed in American vernacular...this baby has been a classic since day one!
YSL Downtown Tote

It is downtown cool for sure, with its tote bag shape, that gorgeous leather, and the cool color and effect combos! Chic style 101!
Other bags to get familiar with: Louis Vuitton Manhattan, Gucci Boston Bag, Marc by Marc Jacobs Dr. Q Hillier Hobo, Rebecca Minkoff Market Tote, UYSL Muse, Fendi Baguette, Chloe Bay Bag...
Happy Shopping!

Hand it Over
I have a sort of obsession with handbags...okay, an obsession!
I am partial to those actually carried in the hand...and maybe even on the lower arm...but I can tell you that I love them all, in some way or another.
My current list of favorites are a mix of "IT" bags and others, that just tickly my fancy.

Alexander Wang Rocco Baby Duffel
I love the duffel styling, the slightly smaller size, the rich leather, and the FANTABULOUS studs on the bottom for style and substance!
Chloe Paddington
My number one "it" bag of ALL TIMES...love the leather, love the lock, love the look!
Louis Vuitton Bloomsbury
A longtime lover of the Speedy, I traded in my love for this new baby, with the pleat in the middle, the Damier class, and the strap to wear as a shoulder or cross body bag!
Halston Foxy Clutch
It's Halston...and it is gorgeous with the snakeskin and gold latch!
It will go with anything...and did I mention it was Halston?
Proenza Schouler Suede PS1 Bag
This is BY FAR the best work bag ever, in this rich suede teal...I think I have fallen in love!

Costume Ball
Every year the stars go out to the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala. It is usually hallmarked by over the top fashion and haute couture gowns. This year, the looks seemed a little tame, but I still found a few stunners I thought I would share:

Nicole Richie in Marc Jacobs looked both glam and easy in this floor length gown.

Kerry Washington looked sexy and HOT in her Thakoon ruched red number!

Sarah Jessica Parker, never one to disappoint, looks like a million bucks in this Halston pleated frock!

I typically don't fall head over heels for Diane Kruger, but I love the simplicity and the drama of this dress...and uh, her body is sick!
Hollywood Glamour is still DEFINITELY live and in living color!

Shoe Stoppers: Hearts a Ruffled
Every now and then I run across a shoe that makes my heart flutter...
and this one has done it.
I am sure I have seen it before, but for some reason when I saw it plain, in all of its glory...not distracted by some model's size 13 feet or a celebrity's toes which had been obviously stuffed in towering stilts one too many times...I felt my heart...well...ruffle!
It is a simple sandal, at its foundation, but it is the lace ruffling running up the front of the shoe that makes it so fabulous. It would liven up a simple black dress, or take your jeans, tee, blazer, and statement necklace up a notch on the glam scale. And let's be honest...the fact that they are Louboutins make them THAT MUCH more fab, because we know there are no other 5 inch shoes in the world that we would rather put our feet in!
LOVE THESE!

Enjoy!
