I believe in Fairy Tales

Not of the Tinkerbell sort, although she is wickedly cute, I mean of this sort:

The pure romance, the whispering of sweet nothings from behind those fantastic floor length curtains that pop in front of the dark wall. The wonderful way the table linens hang. The golden drapiness of the chandelier. The fuzzy chair covering that would tickle your fingers as you pulled out your chair.
HEAVEN on Earth...here it is!

If you too believe in fairy tales, and want this sort of interior romance in your home, look for sheer drapey fabrics for wall curtains and table linens. Paint your wall a dark color and add a little fantasy with a beautiful color in curtains, pillows, bed or table linens: charcoal and pinks, deep dark chocolate and apricot, black and lilac. Leave floors bare and tables and chairs an unfussy wood finish. Bring drama with low hanging chandeliers on a dimmer, rich fabrics on the seats, and maybe a bouqet of sweet smelling stargazer lilies on the sideboard.

...a room so sweet...like a fairy tale!

Everything in its place...

If I could have a list, a file, a notepad, and a compartmentalized organizer for every part of my life, I would be a much happier person.
Everything has a place, and everything in its place...that is my motto at home.
Magazines belong in magazine racks, bins, or baskets.
Pens and pencils belong in pen cups of holders.
Papers belong in document boxes or files.
Bills belong in the bill organizer.
What is so hard about that?
Well, the one thing that I have struggled HARD to organize is my jewelry.
While it is not the jewelry collection of say, Liz Taylor, it is a nice little collection, and I want to keep it stored, safe, and....you guessed it, organized.
I have tried jewelry boxes of all shapes, sizes and colors, but all have disappointed at some time or another...
but then I discovered NeatNix!

Plastic trays with velvet compartments that slide and stack together and fit in your drawer...genius.
No more bulky jewelry boxes on my dresser...
YAYYYYY!

Hang Time

I have this thing for anything that is suspended or floating in mid air.
It looks so fairy tale to me.
I have fallen in love, over the course of the last few days anyway...with terrariums. So the idea of a handing terrarium is right up my alley.

This design by Grounded
has air plants and succulents in a round glass orb with openings on each side. A few of these displayed at varying lengths would make a modern and
beautiful display in your favorite corner.

While this display from Litill Custom Terrariums is suspended from a cord, that makes it a little more industrial, perfect for a man's office or the kitchen, even.

One of my favorites, this Baby Toes Succulent Hanging Terrarium by
Monkey Always Look is kitschy and modern. And while it doesn't look like baby toes, it is still cute.

If you have a black thumb like me, and all your greenery seems to die within a week, these are great ways to have a little chlorophyll in your home that don't take much care and pretty much thrive on being left alone. Or, you could skip the succulents and air plants all together, and build a little gnome village or modern garden inside of your dome.
Happy Decorating!

R.I.P. Alexander McQueen

Fashion and Home Style go hand in hand.
Some of the most magnificent homes are owned and designed by clothing designers.
Yesterday, the fashion world lost one of its most influential and creative minds, Alexander McQueen.
My ode to some of his best designs:

R.I.P. Mr McQueen...fashion has never known a greater rebel!

Interior Inspiration: Rihanna

Huh?
Rihanna in your house?
HUH?

Well why not.
Fashion is an inspiration for music, books, art...why not my home?
It is not a literal interpretation of Rihanna's style, but a more figurative one that I am looking for, an urban avant garde bedroom!

So here we go.
First, here is a sampling of some of her hottest styles to date, for me.

If I were to magically transport her style into my bedroom, I would get this:

The Bed and Dresser Only, to keep in line with her simple base, jeans, black leggings, nude sandals, black pumps.

The clear on my side, the black on his side. I always think she has an either/or going on...the wild hair, the soft dress, the flirty jacket and the tough denim.

Missoni Home Bedding to make the room pop!

Some chrome Jonathan Adler lamps for fun and whimsy!

This is the urban, hardcore, fashionista side of Rihanna...the tough animal skin and the hardness of the chrome legs!

To put at the end of the bed.

The piece de resistance...the orange slipper chair which brings out
the feminine side!

Thanks Rihanna!

This IS Glamourous

I first saw this on the blog This is Glamorous and I thought it was lovely and ultra luxe!

The beautiful light that comes from the candles, the shine and simplicity of the bottles, the tablescape is Glamourous, for sure! Use your cleaned out wine bottles to create something similar. Dim the lights, close the curtains, and let this beautiful luxury speak for itself!!!
