Chroma Chameleon

Chroma Lab Bathroom

Chroma Lab is a comapny that revives furniture and rooms with color!
And I am going to just say that this fantastic BURLAP covered Teardrop Bathroom is great! While it may not be your style, you cannot say that it is not ingenius, inventive, and super creative. Plus, you could turn this kitschy design into something modern and sophisticated simply by changing the pattern of the paint.

I am doing a BUDGET redo...so while I love some of the beautiful designs I see on

So, I have done a roundup of all the tables and chairs I would love to see in my room.
Chairs FIRST!

Brilliant Idea

Recently, we had a client who loved magazines...and like me, she get a million magazines a month. While I throw mine out, she loves to keep hers. It presented a slight style dilemma for us in her room...
However, this brilliant idea by Roderick Vos would have been great for her:

A way to display your magazines in a cool and unique way, that gives you reason and room to keep them. They can add a cool design element and bring "you" into the room!
Now that's a brilliant idea!

Fusing Fashion and Home Styling

Alot of people can put together a decent outfit, few can fashion a beautiful room.
It is not as hard as it seems however.
Lemme give you some pointers.
Let's start with this outfit

Step 1
The first thing is to figure out what style of home design this most closely relates to. With its clean lines, neutral but bold color palette, and mix of textures, I would say Contemporary. With that said, let's move on.

Step 2
Color Palette. This is rather simple here. The colors are neutrals (grays and browns(picked up in the gold of the jewelry)) and darks (black and indigo). Since these colors are dark, we should go with one of the lightest colors for the wall. In a room with more light colors, a darker wall works well...and in a room with brights, it is best to go with a neutral wall.
So the lighter gray would work well as a wall color.

Step 3
Furniture.
This step involves finding furniture, in the style of the room, in the colors and textures that you picked.
For example:

These larger items pick up some of the main colors in the look, softening the black a bit with charcoal and setting the Contemporary tone for the room. Sofa, Chairs, and Bookshelf from Room and Board, Tables from Macys and Horchow.

Step 4
Decor
Now pieces that mimic the accessories will be pulled. These may not match dead on, but give the same style to the room.
LIGHING-brass, golds, and silvers to bring some shine to the room, from Pottery Barn and Macys.

PILLOWS- Gray fur pillows from Neiman Marcus

RUG-a sort of moroccan flavor in gray and cream to anchor the room from Horchow

These pieces together can transform the beautiful outfit, into a beautiful room.

British Bon Bons

I fell IN LOVE with the home of Kelly Hoppen, a British designer, on Metropolitan Home site.
This dining room:

is one of my absolute favorites.
First, I am in the process of redoing my dining room...pics coming soon...
so I am obsessed with dining furniture.
Second, it is so luxe and lush and playful. The beautiful white Art Deco chairs played against the snakeskin wingback chairs. The big dark wood table. The large pendant fixture and the oversized desk lamp, to play off of the size of the pendant...work so well. The brown and white colors, mixed with the textures of the fringe, wood, skin, and leather is divine.
Just in case you didn't know...the look: Stylish Eclectic, with a blend of Historic, Contemporary, and even a little Modern design.

Makes me wanna sing: Kelly, Kelly, Kelly, Kelly, Kelly, Kelly....ohhhhh!

Put it in PERSPECTIVE

The layout of a room can be as, if not more, important that the actual objects in the room...
The perspective of the room sets the tone for the room, it gives it definition, a purpose. It sets up the function of the room!

Many people can pick beautiful objects, but they miss the mark on this very important part of home styling, as we like to call it.
Let's talk a bit about the perspective of a room, what it is, and how to make your room function at its peak.

What is perspective?

The physical layout of the room in regards to the important architecture of the room.

How do I get perspective in my:

Living Room

This is usually the hardest room for people. Some people think that the furniture all has to be harnessed to the walls of the room, leaving the middle of the floor empty or only for tables. Others, think that the room should greet you FULL ON when you walk in, in other words, everything should face the door. These are two huge mistakes. The easiest way to get perspective in your room is to anchor furniture into conversation zones so that when sitting, people have optimal views of the best architecture in the room. So, in a room with a fireplace, having one conversation zone, usually the largest, at this area, gives great perspective. Two sofas facing each other, perpendicular to the wall of the fireplace work, as well as one sofa and two chairs in this configuration. Another traditional way, is to have the sofa face the fireplace and the chairs flanking the fireplace.
When you have a room with one architectural gem, it is easy...harder, when you have two, such as a fireplace and a picture window. Fear not...if you room is small, make one large conversational area that makes use of both. If your room is large, have one conversational area at the fireplace and a smaller one, two chairs and a table, or a chaise and a floor lamp, or even a reading nook with a large chair, magazine bin, books, and a lamp...at the window.

Basement

Now, most basements have no windows, maybe only those small glass block windows, so you usually MAKE the conversational areas based on the items you put in your basement. It is unique from every other part of the home.
If you have a large screen television, obviously, you anchor a conversational area in that area. If you have a bar, you set barstools up. If you have a pool table, perhaps a bar height table and a few stools in the corner, for onlookers. If you have a playroom, a sofa in this area, plus some smaller child seats for kids, are great. In a basement, that is often used for a variety of purposes, you set up your work zones, and use those as your "architecture" around which you build your perspective.

Hollywood Regency...anyone?

This pic is a Jonathan Adler room, that I adore.
First, I adore Adler. He is witty and glam!
I also adore the Hollywood Regency style...what is that?
Well, it is a 1960's style, popular in...you guessed it, Hollywood...that mixed bold colors, glamorous accessories, and mixed it with the midcentury modern furniture elments. The result was a modern glam that included many accents, such as mirrored surfaces, metallics, foo dogs, asian decor, chippendale chairs, velvet, etc.
Modern day designers that feature this style are Adler and Kelly Wearstler.

Some of my fave Hollywood Regency-esque pieces right now:

Jonathan Adler X bench

Adler Chippendale Arm Chair

West Elm Overlapping Squares Chair

West Elm Mirror Block Coffee Table

Jayson Rockefeller Sofa

Anthropologie Casara Coffee Table

Boudoir Chair

Crystal Ball Table Lamp

Silver Plate Chandelier
